Our Story:

At Swanson Coffee, our story is one fueled by passion and determination, born from our unwavering love for exceptional coffee. It all began with humble beginnings: from my days as a barista at a hotel to the bustling environment of a 24-hour Starbucks. But it was a chance encounter with the notion that growing coffee in Colorado was impossible that sparked a fire within us.

Refusing to accept the status quo, we embarked on an audacious journey to cultivate coffee in the mile-high state. Through countless hours of research and experimentation, we delved into the intricate world of growing environments, diving deep into the nerdy realm of secondary metabolites – the very essence that bestows each coffee bean with its subtle nuances and characteristics.

Our journey into roasting was equally unconventional. Armed with nothing but a popcorn machine and a quarter cup of green coffee beans, we began our foray into the art of roasting. As we honed our craft, we graduated to a Behmor 1600, pushing its limits until we could push no more – prompting us to upgrade its electronics.

Today, we proudly roast our coffee on a Diedrich IR-5 at a health-inspected co-op in the vibrant city of Denver, Colorado. What once started as a backyard and garage roastery in the heart of Aurora has blossomed into a thriving community of coffee enthusiasts, united by our shared appreciation for the artistry and complexity of coffee.
